Why Your Compressed Sofa Didn't Recover Properly

Why Your Compressed Sofa Didn't Recover Properly

You waited 48 hours. The sofa still looks flat, lumpy, or misshapen.

This happens for specific, preventable reasons. Here are the 4 most common causes — and exactly what to ask before your next order.

    1. Foam density below 25kg/m³

Low-density foam (below 25kg/m³) compresses easily but never fully bounces back. The cell structure collapses under vacuum pressure. This is a material limitation, not a defect.

✅ What to ask: "What is your foam density in kg/m³? Can you provide a test report?"

🏭 What we use: 28-30kg/m³ foam. Reports available on request.

📌 Industry standard: 25kg/m³ is the minimum for proper recovery. Below that = don't buy.

    2. Sofa stayed compressed too long

Some factories compress sofas early to save warehouse space. Foam is not designed to stay compressed for weeks or months. The longer it stays compressed, the less it recovers.

✅ What to ask: "How many days are sofas compressed before shipping?"

🏭 What we do: Compression only during final packing. No pre-compression for storage.

📌 Best practice: Compression should happen within 48 hours of shipping.

    3. Fabric lacks elasticity

The outer fabric does more than look good. It must stretch to allow foam expansion. Cheap, non-elastic fabrics restrict recovery, leaving the sofa half-recovered and wrinkled.

✅ What to ask: "Can you send a small fabric sample for elasticity testing?"

🏭 What we use: Wrinkle-resistant fabric engineered for vacuum compression.

📌 Simple test: Pull the fabric. If it doesn't stretch, the sofa won't recover.

    4. Inconsistent materials between batches

The sample is perfect. The first order is good. Then later orders use cheaper foam or thinner fabric — without telling you. This is the hardest problem to catch.

✅ What to ask: "Do you have BSCI and ISO 9001 certification?"

🏭 What we do: We keep batch records for every order. Same specifications, every time.

📌 Why certifications matter: BSCI and ISO 9001 require documented traceability.

📋 Copy these 4 questions. Send to any supplier before ordering.

    1. Foam density: What is your foam density in kg/m³? Can you provide a test report?
    2. Compression time: How many days are sofas compressed before shipping?
    3. Fabric sample: Can you send a small fabric sample for elasticity testing?
    4. Certification: Do you have BSCI and ISO 9001 certification?

Good suppliers answer clearly with evidence. Bad suppliers dodge or give vague answers. Don't order from dodgers.
